In Chinese mythology and qigong, there are Five Sacred Guardians of Earth and the Four Cardinal Directions. These are the Green Dragon of the East, Red Phoenix of the South, Yellow Snake of the Earth White Tiger of the West and Black Turtle of the North. Each of these animals guard the movements of cosmic and universal energy, and point us towards the possibilities of harmony with the cyclical patterns of creation and dissolution. Present since ancient times in Chinese Daoist texts, these later also became guardians of Buddhist dharma.
We will explore qigong practices associated with each of these celestial guardians, and learn how an embodiment of these forms can help us cultivate and guard qualities to awaken and liberate our hearts: discernment, compassion, transformation, courage, and protection from negative forces. Through talks and experiential practices, you will learn about the importance of these guardians, qigong forms associated with them, and meditations to help anchor their wisdom into clear, contemplative awareness.
The day is suitable for beginners as well as those with experience of qigong or meditation practice. Options will be given for those who wish to do the practices seated. For those with injuries, suggestions will also be offered on how to best work safely and mindfully. The day will mainly be in silence. There will be a break for lunch of about 1hr.
Dana/Donations:
This event is offered based on dana. Dana is a Buddhist word and teaching that means generosity and support, and works on the idea of reciprocity. With my teachings, I will offer what I hope will best support, guide and nourish you in your practice. In exchange, you are invited to give an offering of dana that reflects the support, guidance and nourishment you feel you have received.
I deeply appreciate your support, which allows me to continue offering my teachings in this way.
Dana can be offered on the day of the event in cash, or by using the links below:
