Shuanghu Village,
Sichuan. 52 year-old Zhou Wanjie, who was crippled during a forcedsterlization
surgery procedure 20 years ago, uses a cane now to walk. She has sought
government disability compensations unsuccessfully for years, writing
local and provincial bureaus for aid, and complains that nothing she does
can relieve her constant pain. Both her sons have left the village to
seek work in other cities to help sustain hers and her husbands livelihoods. |
